Freelancing is supposed to be the next big thing in India. This is a littlemdifferent from temp working in the sense that one chooses the projects that they work on.
This is quite an interesting trend. A recent report in the economic times talked about this being the next big wave in india.
I agree.
However , here are a few thoughts.
1. One needs to ensure that the reputation is very good. Bad reputation can seriously hamper the prospects of getting new projects.
2. All financial rigmaroles need to be taken care of by you. Invoicing, collecting - taxes - everything.
3. Only do the projects thath you have skills on. That will be critical to get the work done.
4. While it makes sense to work from home- keeping work and home apart will be a challenge ( i dont like working from home). So ensure you have a mindset which enables this.
There are a lot of sites which are enabling freelancing. However, as i went through one yesterday- it was more towards basic data entry and the balance were towards IT based projects.
Lots of new business models can come up here using this new trend
Its an area i will look to see how it moves-- look out for more updates in this area.
