Creating new avenues of fame and wealth

This generation is going places. No longer are people forced to only do courses like MBA engineering or medical, but the rise of the internet is bringing about significant change in the way that people create careers .

What it reminds me is the new God Me World in American Gods talking about how media is taking everything by storm. They were pushing the old God's ( Odin) to come into the mainstream media and then they would again gain significant power.

Need avaenues are being utilized by people of all ages .. starting from children who are starting to become stars from the age of 11.

I see internet sensations who have their own you tube channel  or great websites ( thesimpledollar.com). Companies vie for them to present or be part of events that they have or even write some books .

One of my friends daughter very recently opened up her own singing Instagram channel .. seeing her sing I wish her all the best for the future fame.!

The internet and digital revolution is changing the way we live and new interesting and disruptive changes in the way we work and earn is happening .

Of course while we say all of this , our financial systems still remain the same and we need to ensure we are doing things in a tax efficient manner and with all the paperwork.

Life is changing and we need to be aware and be ready to change. That's simplefinancialsense!

Becoming redundant- staying relevant

Recently I read about the fact that kodak had become bankrupt.. A company which started the entire line of products on photography.

Camera rolls were called kodak .. Even if it was from another manufacturer. like xerox became a generic name for photostat.

Today, as I had written before and keep telling my friends and team - we need to stay relevant to the market.
Digital camera companies are fighting to stay alive because of the changing usage of mobile phones - almost every one of them has a camera. One can hardly see people with cameras on holidays or traveling - people just use their mobiles.
Here is a snap of the number of people who are using their mobiles to take a photo in a mall.

Catch the trend, understand the relevance and change yourself to be relevant!!

Handy phone productivity apps

I love the Samsung note advertisement . it shows the power of what a phone or a productivity device can do for you.

The other advertisement is the one for nokia lumia , where the shopping lists is getting updated realtime.

I saw a program on NDTV where they were talking about the best mobile phones and they spoke about how many people actually used the stylus on the Samsung note... Very few.

While I agree that not many people use the phone with all the features.. But it is the way the world is changing and will change soon.

Now how are are we using these things in our lives.

Right now, I am blogging from the app on my iPhone - sitting in my razai , with the heater on- not having the strength or the will to go to the desktop I have

But such tools enable one to make ones lives easy

I have just discovered a couple of more tools I am evaluating

Evernote is a tool which like the iPhone 4s has the ability to save files on multiple places at the same time - files as well as notes. Right now the free version saves only notesIt's a great app.

The other one is I prefer is the chat tools like whatsapp, viber which can be used across the different os platforms

Money budgeting tools - expense managers - there are multiple ones out there which can be used

"nearby" is the application which uses google maps to identify the different types of places nearby one- it's great if you are in a new place!!

What others are out there which we all can use ???

I will try and write about an app a week.. Maybe that's one of my new year resolution?

Technology changing behaviours

What an experience it has been over the last few days. I have had the privilege of attending a cousins marriage and saw for myself how technology is changing behaviours even in the most traditional occupations - that of the pandit !

The pandit came with one of the latest smart phone - albeit not the real high end phone ( they are a waste anyway).

Here are some of the interesting avenues which people used their technologies

1. There were either high end slr cameras or people were using their smartphones for taking pictures. The other digital cameras were almost absent.

2. Instead of people using paper to pass on messages to the pandit, they were using SMS technologies .

There was one thanking he still said the mantras and did not use YouTube

But life is changing and it's quite fun to see it happening

Be a part of the change

How not to lose your life when you lose your phone

Today's mobile phone is the lifeline of your professional as well personal balance. You have passwords, your almighty contacts and email ids.

If you lose it, you are in for a big hardship... It's almost like losing your purse with your licence in it.

Thankfully as the mobile world is becoming all pervasive , so are it's support systems .

One can use cloud based tools to store all of your contacts. These are available in all of the different platforms available.

Nokia symbian has an auto sync facility , android Market has multiple apps available which enable this , and so does the iOS ( apple).

Of course , it doesn't take away the pain of getting a new sim card from providers - it still takes two days to get it out.. But at least synching with your apps gets your lifeline back !

Ensure you are synched up!

Using voip technology apps

Over the last few weeks i have ( as always) been trying out new apps using my smartphone and have found a few good ones that everyone should try.

1. Whatsapp
its a great app
which is used on all types of phones ( you need to pay a $ for it on iPhone) . One cab send photos or text messages or voice recording to others as long as you have their phone number in your contacts and they also have this app.
I use this quite regularly

2 viber
A GREAT app where you can do VoIP calls with people who have this app on their phones . Available on all android and iPhones. Voice quality is good on wifi or 3G .

3 tango
Similar to viber PLUS video calling.

There are a lot other apps out there which do the same thing but these have been tested by me and i vouch for them.

Go ahead start using them , be cool and save some money
