Buying a new car? Dont forget this discount!!

If you are in the market to buy a new car , you must be quite happy that the dealers are paying you a lot of attention.

Dealers nowdays are really pushy.. calling you almost every day trying to gain your business . In that process they push and give you every discount that they can garner.. from the main company or from their own dealership.

However there is one discount that they never propose .. and that is the no claim bonus from the insurance company which you can transfer from your old car.

The old bonus is great and if you are a good driver you could get up to 50% discount on your insurance premium which in a small car can give you 8k Rs into your pocket or double this for a large car.

All that you need to do is to call your present cars insurance company and get the ncb certificate and use that for the new car insurance.

This ncb can be used for the next three years at any point of repurchase of your insurance premium.

This is some quick money that you can put into your pocket. Don't forget this basic discount..

Now that's simplefinancialsense!!

Beware of discounts

We as Indians get enamored by heavy discounts and believe everything that people tell us.

Enclosed is one such example from today's times of India ....

The hcl me tablet shown as costing 11000 and a GREAT discount of 40% might have been true when the tablet was launched..but not today when the prices are actually around the 6000 Rs range.

So by showing such a large discount is unethical by any standards and is misleading by the indiatimes group.

Taking some SMART discounts

The Internet is a great tool-- one can view discounts and prices of standard products across different service providers by spending only a few mins...

Yesterday i booked some Flight tickets and using a combination of special coupons that i got from mginger- I saved 800 Rs... not bad for 30 mins of effort.

Mginger is a company which sends out SMS on services and products on your cellphone and pays you and your "network of friends" money to receive them. One can take out the money or can use the money for redeeming special coupons that they have ( I redeemed one coupon for 1re and got 200Rs discount on flight tickets over and above the discounted ticket price!!-- 200% return).

I looked at a few websites for special offers on booking flight tickets- Makemytrip.com, Ibibo.com, yatra.com and each of them had some special offers that existed. Some were giving me free base fares on return ticket ( but there were too many conditions so i did not take it up).

So search out the options available on the net-- and Join in Mginger-- and get some neat discounts... Here are a few examples
10%-50% discounts on restaurants, Ferns and petals, Travel, fitness, clothes, vehicle services.

Be Smart.

Have found another way to create a separate income stream on FLIGHT tickets-- so if you are frequent traveller ( not corporate)... take heed-- something coming up soon.

Happy Investing!

Discount Update 2

Here is another update on my discount strategy.

( I am now asking everytime I purchase anything for a discount over the MRP... read my pervious posts - 2, 1 )

I think i have it almost down to a pat-- negotiating on purchasing flowers-- at least a 25% over the first price that the shopkeeper quotes.

Using my mginger link- I got another 250 Rs discount on my flight tickets-- not bad for just reading a few SMS on my cell phone!! ( here is the link-- do join and grow your network--- hey ... getting your cellphone bill free is not bad right?)

Had called up Airtel and asked to increase my speed and got away without paying any additional money for doubling my speed ( ok ok... they were anyway going to increase speed across the board from 1st april-- but hey ,... i think this counts)

Not bad i must say--- looks like at least something like 4000- 5000 Rs per annum.

Happy Investing.
