A lot of the companies which generated employment-- especially in the export sector faced huges issues last year. There were a lot of news stories which talked about SME businesses in textiles closing shops, the fall in the housing and realty sector also took its toll on employment.
With all the population being so much higher in India a 10% Un employment rate is a HUGE number of people who may be living in poverty or fighting to make ends meet.
In this regard Inclusive growth makes so much more sense. With the UID ( Unique identification number) project being driven by the government and spearheaded by Nandan Nilankeni , this will bring in more information and data to the policy makers to help ensure that we to a more inclusive society.
Imagine the 1cr haar ( Garland) of Mayawati -- and imagine the wealth that some people have which could have been used to serve the country better or the impact of the TATA NANO plant being moved out of singur in Bengal- the employment that could have been brought to that region and the loss of it for political gains.
In this lieu - it is left upon us to ensure that we are financially secure and have plans and actions in place to be able to live in a future where more than a 100MM people are unemployed...
Not only financial plans-- but how are you increasing your value to your company by adding skills to your portfolio-- so that you are always "employable"

We have been reading and talking a lot about unemployment since our school days (almost two decades now). And the problems related to employment are almost the same:
ReplyDelete1. Disparity in distribution of income (the garland in the picture given above speaks a lot).
2. Lack of employment generation: Projects like UID, the bygone ones ; events like common wealth can surely add up to employment generation.
3. Uncertain business environment: Though business environment has always been uncertain, yet I feel that blind hiring and firing should be checked. When one employee gets a pink slip, it's not that one person but the whole family- four to eight people who get a big blow. I agree with Rajneesh that brushing up on one's skills and saving for the rainy day is certainly a must. Our highly brand conscious friends should read these blogs and realise that they should have a back up before taking n no. of cards, loans etc. and using them recklessly.
4. Brain drain: Indians go abroad and generate revenues for others.Why don't they come back and create jobs for their own people once they've earned and saved enough? Sad that they are left with nothing but complains about their own motherland.
5. Lack of entrepreneurship: Why don't we have the zest to be job creators rather than job seekers? If a panwala, dibbawala, chaiwala can generate a successful cash rich business, why can't the educated and professionally skilled lot do it?
We need to start looking beyond the horizon, and the zenith shall be ours:)
