Dont always go the Net way

Ironic that my last post was on " go green" but thats the way that the dice rolls.

But when we are opening a new account-- bank, gas connection, telephone-- we are asked for proof of residence which is in Original. I mean Airtel will not take email proof of your address for opening a new account-- but they are the most aggressive in getting their bills to you on email.

So whats the answer? I mean-- not taking printed bills is a good thing for the environment ( apart from making more money for the corporates)-- should we stop moving into the paperless environment?

No- We should support the movement to green. But be careful enough to get enough proof of address which you can use for setting up new accounts and anything else required.

1. My experience has been that to change your address in a bank one needs to have that same bank account at least for 6 months and then its easy as cake to make the change. So use the bank statement as a proof of your address.

2. When you set up a new telephone-- dont immediately go in for a digital bill- wait for a few months to get the address proof and keep it safe for future use

3. use your lease copy as a proof of address.

So while we support the paperless initiative-- have at least one paper based bill-- It will go a long way to prove your existence in a world which has archaic rules which are not going to change soon.

Take care.
