At the first glance Holiday packages like the mahindra group ( Club Mahindra) or the country club look very very attractive and basically they make a lot of sense. One can breathe free of interest increases in annual holidays for the next 20- 40 years by paying money upfront.
Usually someone from these businesses calls you for a quick presentation ( they are very very persistent in getting people there) and they also offer some sort of a holiday if you attend these presentations. I have never gone to one of these- but am sure that they would have a great conversion rate.
However there are a few kinks in the entire chain.
1. To book a holiday one needs to plan at least 6 months in advance and sometimes for specific holidays even a year in advance. It is common knowledge that if you are a member , even if rooms are available at the resort you will not get them. If someone who is not from the club books , they will get it in a shot.
2. There are a lot of hidden charges which apply to the members. For example, they need to pay a yearly maintenance fee.
3 One better use the facilities that your club has- difficult to look at anything else once you have spent the money- it binds you.
The places are usually well kept, food is good -- but the kinks above create a lot of frustration in people. To me, these kinks make the product just not worth it.
I would like to get the club mahindra and the country club managers to have much better customer service and get these kinks sorted out. Unless they do that, these businesses will go out of service-- and no discounts or LCD tvs that they give will work any wonders to their model.
