One wonders if there is any respite for the middle class in India. The budget said it all this week... " you are the scapegoat" and " you don't define the political fortunes of the political parties ".
We had another multitude of cess added on to the many we already have today. Now the ability to go out and eat is getting to be difficult .. One would pay a huge tax for the food .
The biggest disappointment was the impact on tax on epf. 60% taxable on epf withdrawal.. Huge impact on retirement benefits for the salaried class. Hopefully this will be rolled back by the government.. But this gives the direction to where they are going .
Let's look at what the bjp government is doing ..
They are cutting subsidies ... Mostly all from the middle class... And not trying to reduce these subsidies from the well off other sets of non tax payers . The Lpg subsidy , increasing the taxes on cars, even though they may be the small cars ( without driving better infrastructure on daily commute)
They are adding cesses to where the middle class is eating or drinking and buying... Again not trying to reduce the leakage of taxes that are not being charged today. ( more cess means more revenue . These cesses never come down)
This was one government who had focussed on trying to drive to a higher job creation , more entrepreneurship.. They were growth oriented. Imagine how many more people will come into the job market in the next decade and these people will not have the jobs available - so we will have more hardik Patel's, more jat agitations where everyone demands reservations and more JNU tamashas .
While the government came in with the right thoughts and the right motives , they have realized that India and Indians like to wallow in self pity and they take pride in that... Vs a pride in upward movement and in the concept of INDIA.
It is a difficult a state of affairs for the middle class and where to invest needs to be rethought in this investment defining budget ..
It's not simplefinancialsense at all..
Let's plan for the change ..
Thoughts more than welcome
