Ola and uber making people lakhpati

I have been a consistent user of meru cabs but more recently because meru doesn't seem to have any open slots for me, I have been using ola, taxiforsure and others.

While I had the opportunity to go via ola to the airport I got talking to the person on how much he makes and I was surprised that his income after all expenses was around 55000 rs per month !!

Now I am not sure about taxes and stuff for them... But I am hoping that these companies do ensure some sort of tax payment cut when they are paying them...that's almost like a 30% tax bracket

Anyways coming back to the point , this person was running his own car and also working for both ola and uber at the same time. So usually he was making quite a few trips on a daily basis ...and hence he had paid off his loan for car and was thinking of buying his second now.

These apps have fueled a significant growth for people. I am sure that earlier also there used to be taxi companies that we would call when we had to go to the train station ... But the extent of the possibility of earnings is mind boggling .

The technology is changing ... And India is changing with it... For the better...

Meru Cabs- creating a supplementary business model

I like Meru Cabs. Honestly. It has created a good revolution across the country. It has its issues which have not yet been addressed- like charging an additional 50Rs if you call and book a cab, but it has an entreprenueral spirit

Now , this has started off another kind of side business for the drivers of Meru cabs ( City cabs are also on the same page). When you travel to the airport, the drivers now hand out visiting cards and get additional business for themselves- advocating their services over the Meru services. They are still with Meru cabs and Meru cabs get their benefits- but the drivers get the lucrative business of going to the airport and making more money.

Its quite a development. Last time i travelled , i used the same cab driver who dropped me to the airport. he called me a day before to confirm my flight time and told me where to meet up with him- in the parking. He was not there immediately, but came within 5 mins.

Now, does this really make sense to use this additional facility that the driver is proposing. I mean if i just go to the taxi line in the bangalore airport, i dont need to wait for someone, the line is short, and the airport does a great job to get taxi's in quickly.

So , next time- i dont think i will try and use the same driver- i dont get any benefit and it takes more time to get back home.

However, each to their own.
